How to change your Facebook Brand Page URL

So you have your snazzy new Facebook Brand Page and people are becoming Fans already. Unfortunately, Facebook’s automatically assigned URL isn’t very friendly or pretty. So how do you go about changing it?

To change your Brand Page’s URL, you first need to get yourself 25 fans. Done that? Then follow the instructions below:

1. 5. Make a note of your Brand Page’s old URL (it will look like http://www.facebook.com/pages/nameofyourbrand/858274923) , as you may need this for integration into some Social Media monitoring dashboards.

2. Make sure you are logged into Facebook using an account that is set as an Administrator for your Brand Page.

3. Put the following link in your URL bar in your browser: http://www.facebook.com/username/

4. You’ll be taken to a page where you can set the username for your personal page as well as Brand Page (you may see a dropdown as in the screenshot if you are the Administrator for several Facebook Brand Pages)

5. Select the Brand Page you want to set a username for, enter the username you want to appear in place the of the XXXXs as in http://www.facebook.com/XXXX and click the “Check Availability” button. Warning: make sure this is definitely the name you want, no misspellings - you won't be able to change it again.

6. If your chosen username isn’t available, think up a new one. If it is available, click “OK” and admire your brand new Facebook Brand Page URL!

There are a few requirements Facebook ask you to follow. Brand Page  usernames must be at least 5 characters long and can only include alphanumeric characters such as 0,1,2,3 or a,b,c,d,e. Full stops will not display and will be removed.

Facebook also recommends that you choose a Brand Page name that is as close as possible to your public figure or business name to avoid any confusion or misrepresentation.

Damnit... Did as you said, now I lost my company name URL. It was no longer available seconds after I changed my personal username.

:-(

Hi Mattias,
I'm really sorry to hear that. We're not quite sure what you did as you say you have 'lost' your company name URL (if you'd had it you wouldn't have wanted to change it would you?) Would you mind giving us more details so we can try to find out what happened? We'd hate to be giving bad advice! Thanks.

I had the Facebook URL that I wanted, but it was assigned to my personal, private Facebook account. Needed it for my Facebook brand page for my company.

But yeah, I see now that I commented on the wrong post.. Sorry. This one

Just wanted to comment, that by sending an email about trademarks (but writing about this instead) managed me to get a reply from Facebook that fixed it for me. So I now have http://facebook.com/fakepilot

:-)

Glad you got your URL Mattias! Sometimes you just have to use devious means ...

I did as you said but when I enter the URL I chose (facebook.com/dollsfromaileen) I see my personal page (the one where people add me as a friend instead of "like" me.) I don't know how it happened :( Facebook have removed their contacts completely. No "contact us" button anymore and no email where people can write to. Even the FAQ page doesn't let me ask a question anymore.

I did everything as you said but instead of my "company" page's URL becoming facebook.com/dollsfromaileen that URL went to my private page (where people add me as a friend rather than "like" it). It says that once it's set it's set :( Is it some kind of bug? Do you know how to get in touch with Facebook? They have removed their "contact us" button so can't do that anymore :( I wouldn't like to change my "company" name because I only thought of one I like.

Hi Aileen

Sorry you've been having problems. We'll run through the process again ourselves and see what's happening - get back to you soon.

Hi again Aileen

I'm not entirely sure what you did wrong, but I followed the intructions we gave and all was fine for me. I've checked out the URL you gave and see what you mean: https://www.facebook.com/dollsfromaileen#!/pages/Dolls-from-Aileen/111825138897785 exits as a page, facebook.com/dollsfromaileen is your profile. Can you try it again, being sure to select the dropdown of your page when you go to: http://www.facebook.com/username? As you *haven't* succeeded in changing the page name, it ought to let you do so, although it won't let you do it more than once - see https://www.facebook.com/help/?page=900. I'll add that note to our instructions (get it right first time!) I don't know what else to suggest, I'm sorry, :-(

As for contacting Facebook - it's a no-go AFAIK. You have to spend on advertising to get any response.

Thank you Tia. I couldn't have selected the wrong thing as in my drop down menu there was only 1 choice, my page. It won't let me change it again because /dollsfromaileen is already taken and it says I have already set my username. :(

Thank you very much! Clear and simple instructions. Really excited to get the personalised URL!

Hi,
I would like to change the url as you described above. The thing is that our brand name is "Majid Drums" and I was wondering what happens if I change to majiddrums (ONE WORD)? Will it also affect the name displayed in the profile or fb site or only the url address??

Thanks,
Eric

Hi Eric, It will only change the URL, don't worry. Let us know how you get on! Tia

I started my page as cheap mikes. I decided that since my primary web page is cheapmikesdomains I would change it to that as anyone searching for domains will see it...then I guess I started making mistakes.
